This bridge is shown as FAI (Federal Aid Interstate) route 3. FAI Routes in IL usually carry the number of the Interstate that the program built, but there was never an Interstate 3 in Illinois. This bridge is along I-55 near Channahon, but is on the Frontage Road, not the actual Interstate. Since it was built as part of the Interstate Project, it carries an FAI number. |

This is the plate on the old US-36 bridge over the Illinois River at Florence. This is now IL-106, and this bridge was built in 1929. The route was originally laid out in 1918 with a ferry crossing, and then a bridge. The plate refers to State Bond Issue number 36. Coincidentally this route became US-36 in 1926. The bridge was rebuilt in 1980, and a second plate was applied. |
