Cook County rarely use markers on its roads. Lake Cook Road, one of the busier roads in the northern part of the county (On the Lake-Cook county line if you haven't figured it out), went thru several upgrades over the last 2 decades. In the late 1970's it was extended from Milwaukee Avenue (IL-21/US-45) west thru Buffalo Grove to the existing part west of Rand Road (US-12). A big project within this expansion was the bridging of a wetlands west of IL-53. Several signs were posted on the road itself, but seem to have disappeared over the years.
A trip on Lake Cook Road on 3-24-99 showed no markers at all on the road itself, several cross streets have indicators. Lake-Cook Road is County Route A-50, following the NACA (North American County Association) standard.

IL-136 is the second shortest numbered highway in Illinois. It runs for a shade over 3 miles, from the Mississippi River Bridge between Fulton IL and Clinton IA and the junction with US-30 just east of Fulton. This road was once Alternate US-30, and interestingly enough is now posted as Detour US-30 during a reconstruction project on the US-30 bridge a few miles south.
