Shea's Truck Covers is an old Texaco gas station on old US-66 in Springfield IL. (2075 Peoria Road, currently Business I-55). Mr. Shea has owned this station for 47 years, and owned another station down the street for 10 years before that. He still works there 5 days a week, selling camper tops for pickup trucks. Mr. Shea is a member of the US-66 Hall of Fame in McLean IL, and knows more about US-66 and oil company trivia than anyone I have ever met.
My wife and I happened upon his shop this morning by chance. In the dozens of times I have driven US-66 thru Springfield, I never noticed this place before. Being a sign collector, I can not believe I haven't seen his place. In the photo's below I hope to capture just a few of the trinkets, signs, and memorabilia he has collected. He allows people to roam his station and view his real and replica items. He spent over an hour talking to us about his place and experiences.

Above see an overview. The US-66 shield on the upper left corner of the building is real, as is the I-55 marker. Below is another view. |

Here is a California style US-66 marker. This is to the right of the second "S" in Shea's in the photos above. |

To the north of the main building, a shed hosts other signs, including these 4 authentic old style IL route markers. These are the first of these signs I have seen in person. They are made of steel, as opposed to the aluminum used nowadays.Notice the raised outline on the IL-171 marker. |
