US-54 used to run to Chicago, but was reduced to it's original end at Pittsfield in 1972. This US-54 sign is at the old end at the old US-36(US-54 was extended north of Pittsfield to the new US-36/I-72 freeway). Note that this sign has more of the black border than most IDOT US markers. |

The same assembly as the above picture, but each of the signs are shown. These photo's were taken prior to the application of I-72 to the road west of Springfield. The freeway is US-36, IL-107 is the continuation north of the road that takes US-54 here. US-54 could easily be extended north on IL-107 to US-24 and still remain "correct" |

US-45 and US-52 are multiplexed in the Kankakee area. There are a couple of these unique dual markers in Kankakee and here at the US-45 exit off of I-57 south of town. |

US-12 and US-45 are multiplexed in suburban Chicago. US-20 joins for a while south of Northlake as well. On North Av. (IL-64) US-12/45 crossed over on a bridge. Notice the different style signs on this assembly. The "12" and "45" are different series numerals, and the US-12 marker has a different shield shape. |
